Description: This is the second video of a small power setup using an AirX windmill and 3 80 watt solar panels. For those that are interested in solar and wind power and would like their first clue on how to start this may be of some help. |

terrorist420x ::: Favorites 2006-06-10 08:56:10 You should build an electric vehicle. You'd be able to charge it with your renewable energy. Any idea how many kWh has your system generated over the time you had it? Any approxamate cost per kWh that you expect the system to entail over its lifetime? Apparantly, wind is now cheaper than coal and solar competitive with 70s era nuclear. __________________________________________________

erod1944 ::: Favorites 2006-08-08 00:20:24 If you're isolated from the grid and you're blowing fuses during lightening storms, I'd be tempted to think that you're pulling in energy from the tower & guy wires. Unterminated wires can build up quite a charge during electrical storms. Pretty Interesting Stuff. Good Video. TNX. __________________________________________________
billypopp ::: Favorites 2006-08-08 10:48:54 Hey thanks for the suggestion. It's been fun and interesting. Haven't blown any fuses this summer ... yet! :-} __________________________________________________
lildossO4 ::: Favorites 2006-08-18 03:28:03 Hey billypopp, I'm trying to learn more about renewable energy. Can you refer websites that could teach basic principles? Great video, please keep doing what your doing. __________________________________________________
lividmany ::: Favorites 2007-03-09 18:58:38 Where did you get the charge controller and how much does something like that cost? __________________________________________________

billypopp ::: Favorites 2007-03-10 10:24:05 Ask me. A question and I'll dig up an answer via a website. That's why I made this video, for the basics. Any questions? Ask away. I'll try to answer faster than I did with this one :) __________________________________________________
billypopp ::: Favorites 2007-03-10 10:26:22 Wind is very dependent on .... the wind :) To make a comment that wind is good is a vast generalization. Location, Location, Location. __________________________________________________
terrorist420x ::: Favorites 2007-03-10 16:43:02 Not to worry. There's plenty of locations sufficient to harness wind in the U.S. So much so that a much bigger worry is grid stability. Since wind electricity generation varies with weather and since wind turbines don't generate reactive power, we'd run into problems when more than 20% of the grid is wind. We could use much more wind with a decentralized grid. Solar is more predicactable. __________________________________________________
terrorist420x ::: Favorites 2007-03-10 17:13:04 I'm building a wind turbine for a senior project. 6.5 foot diameter 3-blade rotor optimized to have a tip-speed ratio of 5 at at 10 mph wind speed. AC induction generator with 12 pole pairs built out of 24 NdFeB magnets, spare car parts, and a custom 9 coil stator with #14 AWG wire. Calculated about 800W at 28 mph wind, but really expect somewhat less. Will be fed to 3 Rectron M35A rectifiers and a 12V pack of Trojan T105 batteries, accessed through a Xantrex X Power 1000 inverter. __________________________________________________

brettymike ::: Favorites 2007-05-11 06:58:43 Hi Dave, how often do you reckon your batteries would be over charged without that controller? __________________________________________________
fartingtube ::: Favorites 2007-07-07 02:58:58 How much was the inverter? __________________________________________________ |
